ISR achieves unique results through fully customized, safe, and effective one-on-one lessons with just your child and the Instructor in the water. What your child learns, and the way they learn it, is what sets ISR apart from traditional swimming lessons. With safety always as the top priority, ISR focuses on building competence, which fosters confidence and provides a strong foundation for a lifetime of enjoyment in and around the water.
All students, even those as young as 6 months old, learn the fundamental ISR skill of rolling onto their backs to float, rest, and breathe. Infants and toddlers who are not yet walking confidently will learn to maintain this position until help arrives. This skill is just as crucial for older students as they develop more advanced swimming abilities.
As toddlers and young children develop more physical skills on land, they’re also ready to learn new skills in the water. ISR teaches children to swim a short distance, roll onto their back to float, then turn over and continue swimming and floating until they can reach safety—whether at the pool steps, the poolside, or the shoreline.
Students who have previously mastered ISR will be offered Maintenance & Refresher opportunities to help maintain their skills and confidence throughout the year.
Maintenance lessons are typically recommended at intervals ranging from once a week to once a month, while Refreshers are suggested every 6 months.
Parents should work with their instructor to establish a Maintenance + Refresher schedule tailored to their child’s needs.
For ISR students who have mastered the swim-float-swim sequence, McDonald ISR offers advanced stroke lessons to further develop swimming skills. In these lessons, students will learn a variety of advanced techniques, including freestyle, backstroke, elementary backstroke, and breaststroke.
These lessons are ideal for children who are preparing to join a swim team or simply want to refine their swimming abilities. With a focus on proper technique, endurance, and stroke efficiency, students will gain the skills needed to confidently progress in competitive swimming or enjoy recreational swimming at a higher level.
